GoGirlGo! Week in Chicago Features Kristen Kjellman

The Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Chicago GoGirlGo! Week encouraged more than 2,000 girls to get active through FREE “open houses” around the Chicago metro area. Organizations host "open houses" for girls ages 8-18, designed to encourage inactive girls to try a physical activity, make new friends, learn the importance of health and fitness, and ultimately, continue to participate in sports.
Chicago's Girl-Serving Organizations Partner to "Give Girls Game"

Six of the city’s leading girl-serving organizations worked together to organize Give Girls Game, a FREE health and fitness festival designed to show girls, ages 10-16, new ways they can get active, whether by playing a sport or dancing or jumping double Dutch. More than 1,000 girls participated from metro Chicago-area girl-serving organizations that host programs in concert with the Chicago Public Schools.
GoGirlGo! Chicago 2008 Vitality Camp is a success!

Unilever collaborates with the Women’s Sports Foundation and the Girl Scouts - Chicago Council to promote self-esteem, physical activity and life lessons for Chicago’s girls. In its second year, the GoGirlGo! Chicago Vitality Camp encouraged 122 girls to participate and continue to participate in regular physical activity through a full weekend event at Camp Butternut Springs. Golf Clinic Week Gives Young Girls First Exposure To Golf

In its first year, the Golf Clinic Week from July 7-10 at Broken Arrow Golf Course in Lockport, Illinois introduced 75 brand new golfers to the sport. The participants included 65 girls and 10 program leaders, all whom expressed a desire to continue to participate in golf as a physical activity. Broken Arrow Golf Course sponsored the event in collaboration with the Women's Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! Chicago to promote self-esteem and physical activity among girls.

Chicago State University Professor and Associate Dean Lisa C. Pesavento, Ph.D., presented at the World Leisure Congress this month in Québec City, Canada. During the presentation, titled "GoGirlGo! Chicago: Developing Social, Economic and Community Capital Through Physical Leisure Activity for U.S. Girls," Dr. Pesavento explained the changes and challenges young girls face today in relation to sport and leisure activity involvement. She also explained how these challenges are being addressed by the Women's Sports Foundation's GoGirlGo! curriculum and the impact it has had in the Chicago community over the past three years.
