Shock sweeps Silver Stars for third WNBA title

Monday, October 06, 2008 - A 76-60 victory for the Detroit Shock completed a three-game sweep of the San Antonio Silver Stars and gave the team its third title in the league’s 11-year history. Katie Smith, who was also a starring member of the U.S. team that took Olympic gold in Beijing, led the Shock with 18 points. With the win, Detroit became the second team in league history to win at least three championships. The Houston Comets won the first four, from 1997 to 2000. Leading the Silver Stars was center Ann Wauters, who tallied 19 points. San Antonio guard Becky Hammon, who averaged 19.8 points in her previous eight playoff games this year, scored just five points on 1-for-10 shooting from the field.
